Scarecrow
I watch over the corn planted in rows and rows.
I have few visitors. One comes and one goes.
All of the animals like my best friends
Come to keep me company until fall ends.

I often easedrop on the pumpkins' conversations;
They speak of being lucky enough to be chosen as decorations.
The approaching Halloween causes each of them to excite.
Not one of them can wait to glow with carved smiles in the night.

I see the leaves change from green to orange and red,
And then watch them swish in the breeze before laying dead.
I listen to the wind whispering the weather to behold.
It tells me the upcoming winter will be icy, snowy, and cold.

Every crow like my brother and the fall like my mother.
The fields like my home can be compared to no other.
"Who and what are you?" you ask.
Scarecrow is my name. Guarding the farm is my task.

  1. I really enjoyed the way you described fall and how the whole poem is very nostalgic and laid back. I think that maybe it could be a bit longer, and you could use some onomatopoeias to describe sounds during fall.
    1. A, A, B, B
    2. Very nostalgic, laid back, serene
    3. I think the whole second stanza contains many interesting dictions like swish, whispering, and how you descibed the winter.
    4. Again, the second stanza, since it has so many descriptive words, it gives the reader great imagery.
    5. "wind, whispering, weather"
    6. "brother, mother"
    7. Crow to brother, fall to mother
    8. You didn't seem to use onomatopoeia, but I think that if you did, it would improve the imagery. It would give the reader a sense of sound as well as the sight and feel already described.

  2. I really like your peom because you used imaery very well. It is also very interersting the way you personified the scarecrow.
I think you could improve it by maybe not including a quote when it is not very clear who is talking. Another improvement could be a deeper use of dicion.
    1) A, A, B, B
    2) Her tone is very nostalgic.
    3) I liked your diction when you wrote "wind whispering the weather to behold" it paints a vivid picture of fall weather. I also like when you used "green to orange and red" because it makes the poem flow and "icy, snowy and cold" because it is a keen description of the future for the scarecrow.
    4) One example of imagery was the rows and rows of corn the scarecrow watches. It was very easy to picture endless fields of corn.
    5) Whispering wind-7
    6) Brother, mother-9
    7) The whole poem personifies a scarecrow.
    8) swish-6

  3. -I really enjoyed the topic of this poem and the poetic rhythm it contained.

-I'm not for any improvements for this poem. It flowed wonderfully.

    1) The rhyme scheme was captured very well with relating words to the scarecrow.

    2) The scarecrow tells the reader about his job and the time that passes while he watches the fields. His attitude doesn't inform the reader if he is tired of this job.

    3) The diction was very rhythmic and rhymed well. All, fall, red, dead, good uses of adjectives that describe the nature of the scarecrow.

    4) The entire poem itself placed me in the setting of this scarecrow and described to me how he ages through life.

    5) The consonants in many of the words listed in this poem matched up in similar meaning. This poem intrigued me with a good use of words that describe the poems topic.-Through the entire passage.

    6) The rhythm of the last two lines of the second stanza was very well composed and very descriptive.

    7) The wind whispered the cold wind and the weather that it had. Was a good use of personification.

    8) The swishing of the breeze described the cold weather and was a good use of onomatopoeia.

  4. 1. This poem is about a scarecrow on a farm who watches what goes on, on it.
    2. One question I have for a particular line of the poem is why would fall be his/her mother?
    3. One question I have about a particular stanza of the poem is why would pumkins be happy about being carved and gutted?
    4. One question I have for the entire poem is why is the poem so gloomy brigten it up a bit the end.
5.No, there were not 4 examples of simle and/or metaphor.
Scarecow - scary, big, fall, halloween, farm, old mcdonlad, dead leaves, orange, green, red, cold andfarm animals.

  5. What a great poem! I didn't read the title at first and thought the poem was about playing Farmville. I like the surprise element at the end-- leaving the title off completely would increase the surprise.

Idea for another poem: what happens to the scarecrow once winter comes? Requiem of a Scarecrow, perhaps?

  6. 2) The fall is like the scarecrow's mother because he is made of elements of fall himself. For example, he is stuffed with straw and is usually stationed to keep crows away during the fall.

    3) Carving and gutting pumpkins is just a different way of looking at it. They might be happy to be made into something people find enjoyable. It also brings families together to carve pumpkins.

    4) The poems half gloomy and half happy. Its sad because the job of a scarecrow is lonely at times and must eventually come to an end, but it's happy because he makes friends with some of the animals he encounters. Also, he gets to watch the fall weather come into play.
