Duncan Period 8

Snow Leopard

Feline moving through the snow,
Just like a wraith, slowly slinking, eyes winking.
Like a blur, watch him run, watch him pounce,
His mind is a machine, only doing, never thinking.

Ears flattened, tail twitching,
Stalking his oblivious prey.
Like a mousetrap closing, he leaps as only a leopard can,
Knowing it won't get away.

His dappled silver fur melds with the snow,
Ever colored and amazing.
His eyes are glinting golden spheres,
That track an unwary rabbit while it's grazing.

The whispering wind betrays no sound
Of a leopard leaping through the air.
The rabbit squeaks, sensing the jump
Reflects how for a leopard's prey, life is oh so unfair.

The chase is on, the leopard's prey,
Retreats by the only way it knows how.
To run and run and never stop,
Until, defeated, it meets the ground.

The efforts of the leopard's hunting roast on the fire,
A meal he relishes piece by piece.
Reflecting on a job well done,
He goes to sleep and gets some peace.

  1. -I enjoyed the vivid imagery you expressed in this poem. i also liked that you used many personifications to make the poem come to life.

-I would add on to the poem. You know how to keep the reader's attention and it makes for an interesting poem to read several stanzas of. Also I would explain what the leopard looks like.

    1. A, B, C, B, D, E, F, E, G, H, I, H

    2. The tone of this poem is serious and suspenseful. You anticipate what the lepoard will happen to the rabbit.

    3. Dictions: I liked how you used "betrays" and that it describes the wind.
I liked how when you said the rabbit "squeaks"
I liked said the leopard is "stalking" his prey.

    4. Imagrey: "Ears flattened, tail twitching"

    5. Alliteration: "slowly slinking" (line 2)

    6. internal rhyme: "prey" and "away" (lines 6 & 8)

    7. Personification: "The whispering wind betrays no sound" (line 9)

    8. Ononatopoeia: "squeaks" (line 11)

  2. 1. I think that this poem is about the detail and structure needed to complete neccessary tasks.
    2. One question I have for a particular line in the poem is, what do you mean by "The whispering wind betrays no sound?"
    3. I don't have any questions for particular stanzas.
    4. What is the meaning behind this poem, and does it symbolize something?
    5. Four examples of simile and metaphor were," just like a wraith," "like a blur," like a mousetrap closing," and "his mind is a machine."
    6. A symbolic part of the poem to me was, "Reflects how for a leopard's prey, life is oh so unfair." I believe that this symbolizes that for anyone life can be unfair, especially if you're at the bottom of the food chain.
"His mind is a machine, only doing, never thinking," was also symbolic in my mind. I think it describes a lot of people today that never think about their actions.

  3. -I liked the personifications you used such as the form

-I also liked how you used all of the animals to come to life

-You could add another few stanzas to talk more about your topic

-You could of also added a few more onomatopoeias

    1)A,B,C,B,D,E,F,E,G,H,I,H

2)The tone to me sounded very serious and mature

3)I like how you used "ears flattened" and "tail twitching." I also liked how you said "the leopard leaps through the air."

    4)"The rabbit squeaks"

    5)"Air and unfair"

    6)"Winking and slinking"

7)"His mind is a machine, only doing, never thinking"

  4. 1)I think this poem is about a snow leopard.
2)One question I have for a particular line of the poem is what do you mean by, "Ears flattened, tail twitching."
3)One question I have abouta prticular stanza of the poem is how does he know there is a rabbit around.
4)One question I have about the entire poem is what gave you the idea to write about a snow leopard.
5)Two examples of similes are,"Just like a wraith, slowly slinking, eyes winking," and "Stalking his oblivious prey.
Like a mousetrap closing." Two examples of metaphors are,"he leaps as only a leopard can," and "his mind is a machine."
6)The word that comes to me when I read this poem is sneaky. Sneaky makes me think of strong, peaceful, and very quiet.
