ELAINA S! 3

"La tarea monstruo"

It's paper crawling out of your locker,
Just like a monster I say!
It wants to consume your brain,
just like a alien de la noche.

The dribble out of its mouth goes whoosh whoosh!
Teachers give it to you without thinking,
La tarea monstruo is a dog,
If I were you, I'd think about not blinking.

The sight stimulates senses of terror,
Students hate it like it's their chores.
Sometimes it's easy, or not so breezy,
I might even ask to copy yours.

La tarea montruo is torture,
What does it really mean to you?
It's Spanish for "The Homework Monster"
To me, I hate it, and that is so true. :)

  1. I enjoyed your topic because i hate homework as well. I also enjoyed your 3rd like because it makes me think of something consuming my brain!

To improve, you may want to make it more flowy in the beginning. Another thing is the meaning on not blinking.

    ABCB :)

    The tone is scary.

Three interesting examples of diction are your use of spanish, the word consume, and the stimulate sense of terror.

An example of imagery was the comsuming of the brain.

The alliteration is sight stimulates senses in stanza 3 line 1.

Internal rhyme is in stanza 3 line 3, easy and breezy.

The personification is the dribble out of it's mouth in stanza 2 line 1.

Onomaptopoeia is in stanze 2 line 1 with woosh woosh.

  3. 1.) The poem is about homework.

2.) What does line 8 mean when you say "I'd think about not blinking."?

3.) I don't have any questions about a particular stanza of the poem.

4.) One question I have about the entire poem is how did you come up with the idea to write about homework and relate it to spanish?

    4 examples of simile/metaphor:
    -like a monster
    -like it's their chores
-La tarea monstruo is a dog
    -like an alien

Homework - boring, not fun, school, home, work, teachers, students, study, textbook, worksheet, problems, time consuming, hard, or easy

  4. Its about homework being like a monster.

did you get "stimulates senses" from the gum commercial?

What is the rhyme scheme of the first stanza?

How did you come up with the idea of using spanish in your poem about homework?

"It's paper crawling out of your locker,"
"La tarea monstruo is a dog,"
"Students hate it like it's their chores."
    "La tarea montruo is torture,"

homework: boring, teachers, school, torture, monster, copying, math, science, spanish, tarea.

  5. 1) The poem is about a homework monster.
2)What does "the dribble out of it's mouth" mean?
3)The 2nd one cause I'm not sure what homework has to do with a dog or dribbling.
4)Why do you associate all students with not liking homework?

    Four examples of simile/metaphor:
    1)like a monster
    2)like it's their chores
3)La tarea monstruo is a dog
    4)like an alien

    Aliens- sucking brains

  6. I love the homework monster image. Can you play with it even more? Maybe make it spit out a few Spanish phrases here and there (like right after the dribble line in the second stanza)?
